Developed countries were not in favor of this proposal. In May, however, the US administration surprised and supported the efforts of underdeveloped countries with a <a href=\"https:\/\/ustr.gov\/about-us\/policy-offices\/press-office\/press-releases\/2021\/may\/statement-ambassador-katherine-tai- covid-19-trips-waiver\">statement<\/a> of a representative of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ustr.gov\/about-us\/organization\">U.S. Trade Representative&#8217;s Office<\/a> Katherine Tai. Dr. Maja Bogataj Jan\u010di\u010d sees the US move as reasonable, yet she pointed out that patents alone are not an obstacle in the fight against COVID-19.
