This is the goal of a group of academics from around the world, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.american.edu\/profiles\/faculty\/sflynn.cfm\">Sean Fiil-Flynn<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ivir.nl\/employee\/quintais\/\">Jo\u00e3o Quintais<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osgoode.yorku.ca\/faculty-and-staff\/craig-carys-j\/\">Carys Craig<\/a>, who have published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/doi\/10.1126\/science.add6124\">joint opinion piece<\/a> in Science Magazine, discussing legal reform to promote text and data mining research on a global scale.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ability to undertake data analytics based on vast amounts of information using automated tools is essential to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcl.american.edu\/impact\/initiatives-programs\/pijip\/impact\/right-to-research-in-international-copyright\/\">right to research<\/a>. However, copyright can stand in the way. The authors offer an overview of TDM regulation around the world and call for implementation of TDM exceptions around the world. The overview does not yet take the new Slovenian exception into account.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The authors put forward a number of proposals for copyright reform, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wipo.int\/portal\/en\/index.html\">WIPO<\/a> international treaty to introduce copyright exceptions to permit TDM research across the globe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We need a similar arrangement on a global scale.
